Cut Water Loss
City of Sweetwater to install smart water meters in every home, business
SWEETWATER, Texas – The city of Sweetwater is planning to install Ultrasonic Smart Water Meters in every home and business in the area.
The city is partnering with Secure Vision of America to complete the project by July of 2023. The smart meters are meant to give a more accurate reading for water use than the current meters, which have been said to underreport water usage leading to lower bills. The new meters will measure water consumption so every household and business is billed accurately.
Starting in February, approximately 4,500 meters will be replaced over the next five months. The meters will “offer customers the ability to view their hourly water use data, receive automatic leak alerts, and notice consistent, 30-day billing periods.”
Installation will take approximately 15-30 minutes and the city intends to notify residents of their installation day via social media and the Nixle text messaging service. Residents are advised to trim back any landscaping that has grown over their meter box.
Commercial customers will be contacted separately by Secure Vision of America to coordinate installation plans. The total cost of the project is going to be $2,044,474.10, funded through ARPA grant funds and City of Sweetwater savings.
